The Power of Words: Speaking Life into Your Dreams

I once heard a powerful story about a woman who, after getting married, faced a struggle many of us can relate to, she couldn’t get pregnant. Despite her deep desire to have children, she remained barren. But she didn't give up. She prayed earnestly, asking God to remember her. Then, one day, as she prayed, the Holy Spirit reminded her of something from her past that she hadn’t even realized was important.

When she was living in her parents' house, her siblings would visit, bringing their children along. These kids would often make a lot of noise, and she found it irritating. In her frustration, she’d jokingly say, “I will never want to have these creatures.”

As the Holy Spirit brought this to her attention, she suddenly understood the power of the words she’d spoken in her past. Even though she hadn’t meant them seriously, those words had shaped her future in ways she hadn't expected. She immediately prayed to "denoise" the negative words she had spoken asking God to reverse any effect they might have had on her life.

And you know what? Long story short, she was blessed with children, exactly what she had once prayed for.

The moral lesson here is simple but profound: our words hold power. The Bible tells us, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21). The words we speak can either build us up or tear us down. They can shape our future in ways we don't always realize.

This lesson isn’t just about avoiding negative speech—it’s about intentionally speaking life into every area of our lives. Whether it’s about your career, your relationships, your health, or your personal growth, your words matter. They can bring about the change you’re seeking or keep you stuck in the same place. Speaking positively and with faith isn’t just an exercise in optimism; it’s aligning ourselves with what God has for us.

I often think about this as it applies to my own life. As someone in the design world, it’s crucial to see myself as a creator, a designer, someone who can influence and inspire through my work. If I keep speaking doubt over my career or my abilities, I’m limiting what God can do through me. But if I speak life, if I say, “I am a successful designer, I have the skills and creativity to impact this world”, I begin to align my actions with those words.

And it’s not just about words; it’s about acting on those words. The Bible is filled with examples of people who spoke positively about their situations, even when things looked impossible. Think about  Jesus, who spoke healing into the lives of the sick. The power of words, in faith and trust in God's plan, brought about their promises.

As creatives, as designers, we must see ourselves as the creators God has made us to be. Our words shape our future. If we speak life, if we affirm our skills and our dreams, we open doors for success. If we don’t speak or act, the chances of our dreams coming true are far less.

So, I encourage you to speak life into your journey. Speak words of vision, hope, and success. For in doing so, you partner with God in creating the future He has for you.
